Spring 2022
In the spring of 2022, under the guidance of Dr. Lynn Fels in the course 'Drama in Education' (EDUC 852), I explored the transformative world of theatrical expression and its impact on education. This module offered me an opportunity to explore the power of drama as a medium for storytelling, self-reflection, and community engagement.
Live Performance
One standout moment in this module was a live performance in front of the class.
During this performance, I assumed the role of 'Adam' (the character) and portrayed a scene where he was interrupted by a video call from his best friend in Singapore, and spoke in Singlish.
This interruption served as a powerful metaphor for Adam's struggles with adapting to the cultural differences and communication styles in Canada compared to his home in Singapore.
Through this scene, I aimed to shed light on the challenges of cultural adjustment and the impact it can have on one's sense of identity.

Weekly Postcards Reflections

Throughout the course, I also engaged in weekly Postcards reflections, utilizing the character of 'Adam' to explore various moments of tension and self-discovery. These postcards captured Adam's experiences in Canada, showcasing the tug-of-war between his Singaporean roots and his new environment. By expressing Adam's thoughts, dilemmas, and emotions, I sought to explore the complexities of cultural adaptation and the internal conflicts that arise during the process.
Neighbourhood Tales

Inspired by the vibrant community of animals found in the neighborhoods of Vancouver, I embarked on a creative journey and produced a series of postcards entitled 'Neighbourhood Tales'. These postcards became a visual representation of the diverse and interconnected stories that unfold within a community. Each postcard featured an animal as a symbolic representation of different aspects of community life and served as a symbolism to the importance of embracing diversity and fostering a sense of belonging.

The module 'Drama in Education' allowed me to explore the power of theatrical expression as a means to address social and personal issues. It provided me with a platform to express the struggles, triumphs, and emotions of Adam's journey through a combination of performance, reflections, and visual art.
